What funding is available for hydraulic balancing? (2025)

Optimized heating costs and a contribution to climate protection — sound like a major investment? Not necessarily. Heating optimization makes your heating more efficient and at the same time receives financial support. This article shows you which funding opportunities are available, which requirements must be met and how you can apply for funding.

🔍 Key Facts at a Glance

  • The hydraulic balancing is supported by the BAFA as part of the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG).
  • The funding covers 15% of the eligible costs, plus an additional 5% iSFP bonus if a renovation roadmap is available.
  • Eligible costs are capped at €30,000 per housing unit but can be increased to €60,000.
  • Requirements include a heating system that is older than two but not older than twenty years, and proof of balancing by a certified company.
  • The application requires quotes, a technical project description, registration in the BAFA portal, and a usage verification after completion of the measure.

What funding is available for hydraulic balancing?

The hydraulic balancing Your heating system is supported by BEG. There is funding from BAFA as part of heating optimization. This government support is aimed at increasing the efficiency of heating systems in existing buildings. It is part of the nationwide heating revolution to reduce energy consumption and emissions towards a climate-neutral heat supply.

What is being funded?

In addition to hydraulic balancing The following measures are promoted in the heating system and adjustment of the heating curve:

  • Replacement of heating pumps and adjustment of flow temperature and pump output.
  • Lowering the return temperature for building networks.
  • Pipeline insulation.
  • Installation of panel heating systems, low-temperature radiators and heat storage systems.
  • Measurement, control and regulation technology.
  • Systems based on temperature-based methods of hydraulic balancing.
  • Measures to Reducing dust emissions for solid biomass combustion plants (e.g. electrostatic dust removal, catalytic afterburning).

How much is the funding?

The funding for hydraulic balancing is 15% of eligible costs. For measures to reduce emissions from biomass heating systems, the funding rate is 50%. An additional ISFP bonus of 5% is possible if the measure is part of an ISfP (individual restructuring schedule).

The eligible costs per residential unit are 30,000 euros limited, but can, under certain conditions, be 60,000 euros be increased. The minimum investment volume is 300 euros gross.

Subsidy Details
Subsidy rate for hydraulic balancing 15% of eligible costs
Subsidy rate for emission reduction (biomass systems) 50% of eligible costs
iSFP bonus (additional) Additional 5%
Maximum eligible costs per housing unit €30,000
Increased max. per unit (with iSFP bonus) €60,000
Minimum investment volume €300 gross

Which requirements must be met?

Funding for hydraulic balancing requires the following requirements:

  • age of the heating system: The heating system must be older than two years, but not older than twenty years his (in the case of fossil fuel plants).
  • Proof of hydraulic adjustment: In the case of water-based heating systems, a hydraulic balancing in accordance with method B in accordance with the Form of VDZ Business Association required.
  • Air heating systems: Air flow rates must be confirmed in the specialist contractor's declaration in accordance with the calculated settings.
  • Involving an expert: A certified energy efficiency expert (EEE) or a specialist company must carry out the measure.
  • More requirements: Compliance with guidelines and minimum technical standards, as set out in the general application leaflet.

How do I submit the application?

  1. Obtaining offers: Obtain offers from specialist companies and involve an energy efficiency expert. Then conclude a contract with a resolving condition (e.g. if the application is rejected).
  2. Commissioning the technical project description (TPB): A specialist company or energy efficiency expert creates the TPB. The TPB ID is required for the application and is valid for a maximum of 2 months.
  3. Make an application: Register in the BAFA portal and fill out the online application form. You must then submit all required documents, such as the “General Application Leaflet”.
  4. Implementation of the measure: After receiving the positive decision, you can implement the measures. Work may only start after the application has been submitted, otherwise you will not receive a subsidy.
  5. Submission of proof of use: After completion of the measure, a proof of use must be prepared. This is submitted by the specialist company or the energy efficiency expert.
  6. Verification and payment: The BAFA reviews the documents and pays out the funding amount after successful review.

How much does hydraulic balancing cost and what do I save?

Hydraulic balancing usually costs between 600 and 1,200 euros, depending on the size of the heating system and the scope of work. For example, for a single-family home, the costs are 1,000 euros. With a subsidy of 15% As a result of BAFA, i.e. 150 euros, the own contribution is reduced to 850 euros. As a result of this measure, you can also take up to 10% of heating costs per year save. This makes reconciliation particularly economical in the long term.
